Tis the Season!!!

TIS THE SEASON....Aah the holidays..starting with Thanksgiving and running through the new year, they're a time for Love, Family, Friendship and Thanksgiving!!! Yet there are many of us feeling overly stressed, having problems sleeping, worried about gaining extra weight. If this sounds like you Hypnosis can help! One of the most common questions about hypnoss is "What is it?" Hypnosis is a deeeeply relaxed state by which suggestions by-pass the conscious mind (critical factor) and go directly to the inner conscious mind for acceptance. You are more open to suggestion, yet are in complete control. You are not "asleep", just deeply relaxed.

Hypnosis is one of the most effective tools available for combating smoking, weight loss, and negative stress. You respond to suggestions daily, which is a form of Self Hypnosis. Our techniques at Simply Success Now are a dynamic and effective way of unleashing your own skills and abilities for a happier and more meaningul life.

Plain Talk About.......HANDLING STRESS from Norm Caldwell

YOU NEED STRESS IN YOUR LIFE!!!   Does that surprise you?  Perhaps so, but it is quite true.  Without stress, life would be dull and unexciting.  Stress adds flavor, challenge, and opportunity to life. Too much stress, however, can seriously affect your physical and mental well being.  A major challenge in this stress-filled world of today is to make the stress in your life work for you intead of against you.

To use stress in a positive way and prevent it from becoming distress, you should become aware of your own reactions to stressful events.  The body responds to stress by going through three stages:  1-alarm, 2-resistance and 3-exhaustion.

When stress does occur, it is important to recognize and deal with it.  Here are some suggestions for ways to handle stress.

A-Try Physical Activity
B-Share you stress by talking to someone.
C-Know your limits
D-Take care of yourself
E-Make time for fun

Come back next week for other suggestions and information on handling stress.

Hypnosis Can Help Shed Weight Without Pill Popping - ABC News

As Americans gain girth, and yo-yo dieting or diet pills rarely have lasting effects, many are at a loss when it comes to losing weight.
The latest data from the National Center for Health Statistics show that 30 percent of U.S. adults 20 years of age and older -- more than 60 million people -- are obese. And kids are following suit, with the number of overweight young people tripling since 1980.
Being overweight or obese increases the risk of many diseases and health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Hypnosis is an age-old technique designed to speak to your subconscious mind and alter your behavior. Known to work well to quit smoking, can it re-program your eating habits?

Tried-and-True Weight Loss

Judy Lederman has struggled with her weight all her life, and said hypnosis helped her lose 95 pounds.
"I've tried every diet known to man," she said.
Not wanting to deal with another diet, she went to a hypnotist. At the time, Lederman weighed 224 pounds.
Initially, she was skeptical. Not so, when she saw the results.
Her hypnotist, Rosemarie Schulman, uses a two-part process. First, she gets the patient to understand his or her behavior. And then, through a relaxed state of mind, she suggests they alter their habits.
"When they are completely relaxed and open to suggestion,'' said Schulman, "then you go into saying things like, 'The sugar cravings you have in the afternoon no longer interest you. The wonderful smell of fresh fruit, and taste, now interest you and make you feel very strong.' "
Three years since Lederman's first session, she now weighs 129 pounds and still works with her hypnotist to maintain her healthy lifestyle.
"I used to go out of my way to find the best bakery or the best cakes or pastries," Lederman said. "At this point, I would go anywhere to find the best hypnotist, the best gym. My whole way of thinking has turned on that. And the pastries, they can just sit in the bakery."

    OVERCOMING STRESS

Relaxation Techniques that Everyone Can Accomplish

By Norm Caldwell, CHT, Director of Simply Success Now

There are symptoms of stress that effect everyone. Sometimes these symptoms get out of control and can result in anger, depression, fatigue, scattered thoughts, lack of sex drive, headaches, neck, back and shoulder pains, poor digestion and just general health problems to name a few.

Below are some simple relaxation techniques that everyone can do when feeling overwhelmed. Allow your mind, body and spirit to work together as on and try the following:

  • When pulling in the driveway after a hard days work, shut off the car and just sit there for 1 or 2 minutes. Unwind and relax your day.

  • Walk or drive to a restful, relaxing place such as a park, beach, ocean or along a path with trees and become one with nature.

  • Take a relaxing warm bath instead of a shower.

  • Look for happier programs on TV. Comedies or a Mystery, perhaps.

  • Curl up with a good book.

  • Set up one night a week to go out. Either by yourself or with a companion. Enjoy yourself!

  • Call Simply Success Now to see when the next stress relief class will be held.

  • Remember, your best is good enough.

  • Think... will your anger or hurt really CHANGE anything?

  • And never forget, the freedom of choice is always yours.

Does Hypnotherapy Really Work?

During the 1770s and 1780s, Franz Mesmer, a German physician famous for "mesmerizing" his patients, was booted from town after town as a charlatan. The townsfolk believed his technique for putting his subjects in a trance-like state, using merely the power of suggestion, was foolish.

Today, though, Mesmer is vindicated: Extensive research has shown that hypnosis is not in fact foolishness, and hypnotists are now respected members of the psychology community.

Today that property is primarily utilized in two ways: for "stage hypnosis," in which hypnotists wow audiences by inducing volunteers into trances and then making them perform ridiculous tasks such as clucking like chickens, and for a well-respected treatment called hypnotherapy.  Norm Caldwell is certified in both areas.

To name but two examples, Norm Caldwell has used hypnotherapy to help her patients lose weight and quit smoking and for pain relief. Oncologists at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine have even used the method to ease the healing process for breast cancer patients after surgery.

As with many brain phenomena, scientists don't know exactly how or why hypnotism works, but they're getting closer, thanks to recent EEG scans of hypnotized brains. Dr. Mark Jensen, a psychologist at the University of Washington School of Medicine, found that hypnosis and meditation have similar neurophysiological profiles.

"During both, fast-wave brain activity, which correlates to thinking and processing, decreases, while slow-wave activity — exhibited during both relaxation and focus — increases," Jensen said.
Jensen prescribes hypnosis for chronic pain treatment, and has scanned his patients' brains during sessions. "All pain is processed in the head," he explained. "First it's registered in the sensory cortex, but then the prefrontal cortex gives it meaning, and panic and stress as a result of the pain occur in the thalamus and other parts.

"During hypnosis, you can ask people to imagine that the sensation that usually induces extreme pain is minor — that it isn't bothersome — and you immediately see a decrease in activity in the prefrontal cortex and those other parts. In other words, my patients change the meaning that their brains give to the pain."

Roughly 80 percent of Jensen's patients report a marked decrease in pain during hypnosis sessions; for 50 percent, the decrease lasts hours afterward. By practicing meditation by themselves, many patients learn to treat their own pain automatically. So ask youself, is there something hypnosis can do for you?
